History of Tubus Bauer
Tubus Bauer is a vertically integrated designer, developer and manufacturer of thermoplastic honeycombs based on tubular structures which are sold under the brand name of “Tubus Core”. The company has two operating units. 1) Tubus Bauer GmbH, Wallbach (TB) which manufacturers Polycarbonate and Polyetherimide based honeycombs for a large range of applicatons in Industrial and Aerospace Markets. 2) ATS, LLC based in South Carolina which is the exclusive Commercialisation Partner for North America. In addition, TB has granted production licenses for Polypropylene honeycomb to Tubus Waben GmbH & Co. KG in Rottenbach/Germany and ACS, LLC in Albuquerque/USA.
Tubular Core technology was developed in the late 1950’s by Hanseatische Flugzeugwerke in Hamburg and Lonza in Switzerland. When Lonza decided to divest in this new product development it was Mr. Bauer who was at that time the leading project Engineer on this new tubular honeycomb to buy out the Technology and set up Tubus Bauer GmbH in 1972 in Wallbach-Germany.
The first market where Tubus Core was utilized was the refrigeration industry. Since the laminarisation of the airflow is very critical to manufacturing an economic refrigerated show case. It did not take long for Tubus Bauer to become the sole source for that industry and within a few years Tubus Core was used by all major refrigeration cabinetmakers in Europe. Without any major marketing expense, basically only through word of mouth this new technology was promoted and manifested itself in the European refrigerated show case market.
In 1991 the Bauer family decided to look for a new stakeholder to bring Tubus Bauer to the next level.
In the following two years analyzing and developing new products become the main focus of the new management. Out of this, came in 1994, the creation of a new co-extrusion technology which is still the key technology under patent of Tubus Bauer.
Since being a single market and single product company in 1991 TB has become a multi-product and multi-market company. Its tubular honeycomb meets today the stringent requirements of markets like Aerospace, Automotive, Laminar Airflow, Architecture, Military and many others.
